Wyoming–Zapata’s Mexican Food (Cody)

Great introduction to homemade green and red chili sauces that are so famous in New Mexican food…and that I got to enjoy more later in our trip. Great homemade salsa, too.

Wyoming–Historic Hotel Greybull (Greybull)

Thumbnail image for Wyoming–Historic Hotel Greybull (Greybull) November 19, 2009

We were losing daylight fast and weren’t gonna make it to Cody, WY, where we had reservations. Lucky for us we found the Historic Hotel Greybull instead. Not only was our suite amazingly cheap, but it was big with two bedrooms, kitchen, bath, and living room. We even got a tour of the building which [...]

Greybull, WY

Another great little town that is just the right size for exploring with small kids. Forget the hustle and bustle of Cody, WY, we loved looking in the shops in Greybull and accommodation’s much cheaper than in Cody. Easy, beautiful drive to Yellowstone, too.

Wyoming– Home of The World’s Largest Arch of Elk Horns (Afton, WY)

June 10, 2009

Wyoming: Butch Cassidy and the Woman with Kid

June 10, 2009

Visitors to Wyoming Territorial Prison can view a selection of prisoner bios like this one of Butch Cassidy. Besides this famous outlaw, the prison held women and even children as young as twelve. Very interesting look at the history and culture of the wild west.

Wyoming– Close Encounters with Devil’s Tower

June 9, 2009

Richard Dreyfuss created such a close representation in his mashed potatoes in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. In fact, we watched the movie the night before we hit the trails around Devil’s Tower. Loved the movie, loved the park, loved the cute prairie dog town.

Wyoming– Jackson Hole Makes You Feel Like a Gunslinger

June 9, 2009

While meandering through the dusty streets (well, they’re not really dusty, but you can imagine at one time they would’ve been) and the plank sidewalks of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, we ran across these gun shaped door handles at one of the stores. Pretty cool.

Wyoming– The Silver Dollar (Jackson, WY)

June 7, 2009

The Silver Dollar is the oldest eatery in town. Get a picture by the saloon doors, because kids are not allowed in the bar. Be aware that the attached Silver Dollar Grill is pricey. Paid $20 for trout and rice (no salad) and the food was not good.

Wyoming– Conquering Devil’s Tower

June 7, 2009

Native Americans observe June as a holy month, so climbers abstain from scaling the mountain out of respect for the Native American tradition. Otherwise, people can climb all over the rocks at the foot of the mountain and you can see skilled climbers hang off the straight-up-and-down sides of Devil’s Tower.http://www.nps.gov/deto/planyourvisit/feesandreservations.htm

Wyoming– The Silver Dollar (Jackson, WY)

June 7, 2009

The Silver Dollar got its name from the two thousand silver dollars inlaid in the bar’s top. Kids are not allowed in the bars in Jackson Hole (for good reason), but this would definitely be a cool place to go if you can get Mommy time.
