Oregon–A Tribute to The Goonies (Astoria and Cannon Beach)

Thumbnail image for Oregon–A Tribute to The Goonies (Astoria and Cannon Beach) April 22, 2010

The Goonies is one of my favorite movies and I was giddy to see the house when we visited Astoria. In the picture, I’m pointing to a sign at the driveway entrance, “Goonies on Foot Welcome; No Cars.” That’s cool that the owners are so open to letting fans walk up their private drive. Just [...]

Oregon–Pig ‘N Pancake (Seaside)

Thumbnail image for Oregon–Pig ‘N Pancake (Seaside) April 14, 2010

Hedda and I went near closing time, and the place was hopping. We had a breakfast meal of eggs and pancake (no pig). The coffee was great. We sat next to the closed gift shop area. If it had been open, I probably would have purchased some Pig ‘N Pancake paraphernalia, like a stuffed pig [...]

Oregon–The Astoria Column

Thumbnail image for Oregon–The Astoria Column April 9, 2010

The Astoria Column towers above the Columbia River and surrounding lands. At the base of the column are informative plaques; one of which shows you where the Pacific Ocean, Mt. Rainier, and other land masses are in the distance. Xavier was too small to climb to the top, but Hedda loved climbing so high and [...]

Oregon–Blue Scorcher Bakery & Cafe (Astoria)

Thumbnail image for Oregon–Blue Scorcher Bakery & Cafe (Astoria) April 7, 2010

Enjoyed breakfast at the Blue Scorcher after having it recommended to us by several locals. Its menu utilizes local and organic ingredients. While our kids played in the toy area, we enjoyed a good conversation with one of the employees who “brings his kids in all the time.”

Oregon–Astoria Coffee House & Bistro

Thumbnail image for Oregon–Astoria Coffee House & Bistro March 25, 2010

After a stroll down the pier in Astoria, I had a hankering for a cappuccino. Astoria Coffee House felt so European with the front of the building open to the sidewalk. We sat at our table, feeling the cool night air, eating soup and cinnamon rolls. The experience was dee-lish.

Oregon–Toki Teriyaki (Albany)

Look at Hedda enjoying herself some vegetable tempura and noodles in a yummy broth! The chicken teriyaki is very tasty, too, and the portions big enough to share. Enjoy this adventurous food with your little ones and then explore downtown Albany.

Oregon–Ft. Clatsop National Memorial (Astoria)

Thumbnail image for Oregon–Ft. Clatsop National Memorial (Astoria) March 17, 2010

Lewis and Clark enthusiasts will love looking through the Fort Clatsop visitor center and gift shop. The area, home to the Chinook and Clatsop Indians for thousands of years, marked the end of the Lewis and Clark expedition. We also enjoyed a picnic under the evergreen trees.
Free for kids under 16.
Consider buying an Oregon Pacific [...]

Oregon–Blue Heron French Cheese Company (Tillamook)

Thumbnail image for Oregon–Blue Heron French Cheese Company (Tillamook) March 10, 2010

We cannot say enough about Blue Heron French Cheese Company in Tillamook! Us moms AND the kids preferred it to Tillamook Cheese because it’s not as crowded and is such a great place for families to hang out. My little guy LOVED “driving” the antique tractors. Many people were picnicking with their families or feeding [...]

Oregon–Tillamook Cheese Factory

Thumbnail image for Oregon–Tillamook Cheese Factory March 10, 2010

The Tillamook Visitor’s Center is free to walk through. We bought a package of “squeaky cheese” (cheese curds) to-go for the pure entertainment value.
Tip: Skip the free cheese tasting lines if they’re too long and entice your kids upstairs for a view of the assembly line and buy everybody an ice cream cone at the [...]

Oregon–Mo’s Chowder (Newport)

March 4, 2010

Mo’s Chowder is not only an icon in Historic Bayfront Newport, it also has the best clam chowder I have ever eaten. The kids slurped it down as fast as the adults.  We ate at “The Annex” because there’s more room and it’s not as hard to find a table as the original Mo’s up [...]
